Our editors have a strong background in academic editing as well as in the governmental, NGO and for-profit sectors. This enables us to support your work with both substantive and technical expertise.
Our editing work always begins with a discussion with our client to understand the vision, purpose and target audience for the final text and any stylistic or other specifications. We offer a range of editing and proofreading options and can customise our editing package to meet your needs. We can also assist with academic referencing, layout, formatting and design.
We recommend a two-phase substantive edit for documents that will be published. During the first phase, we engage with the structure and content, ensuring that the organisation aligns with the purpose of the document, checking the clear and logical expression of ideas, and ensuring an appropriate register and consistent tone. We track our changes using the ‘tracked changes’ function and note questions or issues that need attention using the ‘comments’ function. We can also provide comprehensive feedback in a document or feedback session. After you review the edited document and make any revisions that are needed, we complete a second edit, editing any revisions, polishing the language, and ensuring that formatting and layout are reading for printing or publication.
For documents that do not require a high level of polish, we can provide a single technical edit, with a faster turn-around time.
We also provide proofreading, which ensures that your document is technically correct and aligned with your specifications but does not engage substantively with the text.
Editing is always done by an editor who is a native speaker of the target language with a high level of expertise. If the document has been translated by our team, the editor works closely with the translator to ensure precision and accuracy in the edited copy. We can also work closely with your in-house team to ensure alignment throughout the process.
